Tonya Renee Stevenson,63, of New Kensington, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024. She was referred to as Madre by her children, and was born September 28, 1960, in Pittsburgh, to the late Leonard and Rosetta LaRose Stevenson. She attended Carrick High School, in Pittsburgh and received her GED. Prior to her illness, Tonya worked at Goodwill Industries, Cheswick, PA. In addition, she worked at The Wendy's Company and Unifirst. Tonya was a diligent worker no matter where she was employed. Tonya was a pillar in her community of New Kensington. She was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for her dedicated service going above and beyond in her Valley Royal Court Community. She was well liked and known in the community. While residing in New Kensington, she loved spending time with her friends and their families, attending church services, community events, cookouts and children's baseball games. She had a presence in every room she entered with her beautiful contagious smile. Music moved her soul. Madre's sweet spirit followed her wherever she went. She lived her salvation until the day she was led into the Kingdom of everlasting life. Tonya will forever be remembered for her strength, pride, fierce faith in God and never faltering to put her family and other families first.
Tonya also enjoyed visits from her grandchildren and having fun with them, spending time with her children and planning family cookouts. She was an avid Steeler fan. Tonya spent her final year celebrating her birthday at a hotel with her children and grandchildren and traveled to Chicago with her brother Marvin to meet her twin great nieces.
Tonya was a devoted mother to Natasha Stevenson, Takema Harris, Richard Harris, Ebony Stevenson and Derrick Bullock; a beloved grandmother to Imoni, Kejuan, Lela, Amir, DaiMon, DaiShaun, Eniyah and preceded in death by grandson Jakeem. She is survived by her brothers Kevin Stevenson and Marvin Crawley, sister Tomika Crawley-Cohen and preceded in death by her brother Leonard. She was an aunt, friend, and confidant to a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on January 20, 2024, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325, with Reverend Darryl Johnson, Pastor of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be private.
