IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steve
Catanese
April 27, 1930 – May 21, 2023
Steve Catanese, AKA "Nunu", 93, of Arnold passed away peacefully Sunday May 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in his home after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was the youngest of six brothers, born on April 27, 1930, in Russellton to the late Joseph and Anna Cicca Catanese. Steve, like many others, grew up poor during the depression. He had to quit school early to help his family survive by going to work like his brothers. After all his brothers served in WWII, Steve was called to serve the Army in the Korean war. After returning home, he and his brothers, Charlie and Pete, opened up Catanese Brothers Garage. He then met the love of his life Carmella Longo and were wed April 14th, 1956. They actually just celebrated their 67th anniversary last month. Steve & Carmella had two boys Ronald and Timmy. Steve and his brothers then opened up Globe Auto Parts in 1977. Steve finally retired at 85 years old, being the last surviving brother. Steve was an avid bowler and had many trophies. He also loved playing bocce and was a card shark at his Monday night poker games. Steve loved sports and could tell you exactly what was wrong with the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins, especially their coaches. He was known as a hard tough guy but deep inside he had a heart of gold and would help out anybody. His greatest love was his family and was most proud of his only grandchild, Stephen Catanese. He was a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, and Columbiana Federation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy and daughter-in-law, Colleen Guinta-Catanese; and brothers, Roger, Angelo, Peter, Anthony and Charles. He is survived by his wife Carmella; son Ronald and Tammy (Perrone); and grandson, Stephen. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 25, 2023, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Parting Prayers will be at 11:30 AM on Friday, May 26, 2023, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Mt. St. Peter Church, New Kensington. Burial with full military honors conducted by the Vandergrift Honor Guard will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold. www.cardarofuneralhome.com
