Margaret L. "Peggy" Capizzi, 83, of Upper Burrell Township, passed away peacefully Monday, May 1, 2023. She was born April 17, 1940, in Kittanning, to the late Elmer and Florence John Layton. Peggy was a 1958 graduate of Kittanning High School and worked at the former Arcade Department Store, in Kittanning. She was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell, and was active in community events. Peggy found joy in tending to her flowers and seeing deer and birds in her backyard. She took pleasure in watching the Young and the Restless, the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. Peggy loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them participate in their sporting events, musicals and dance competitions. Her hobbies included cooking, baking and organizing her annual family reunion. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard (Edna) Layton; and her sisters, Florence Craig, Dolores (Don) Lane and Lois (Carl) Brown. Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph Capizzi; children, Jennifer (Scott) Johnson and Michael (Cathy) Capizzi; brothers, William (Sandy) Layton and Ken (Kay) Layton; sister, Linda (Giovanni) Palma; and grandchildren, Cameron and Taylor Johnson and Andrew, Nathan and Avery Capizzi. A private funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023, in St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. Arrangements were entrusted to the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington, 724-337-3325.
