With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lonnie Percy Ross, affectionately known as "Boo," who departed this life on May 4, 2025, at the age of 68. He was born on June 23, 1956, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Percy Leon Ross and Phyllis Marie Parker.
Lonnie was a hardworking man who spent five years with Northern States Metals. A passionate fisherman, he thrived on competition—especially in games like Spades and Yahtzee. Lonnie loved the outdoors, scenic drives to the lake, and watching fireworks. A talented cook, he was best known for his legendary fried chicken and took pride in preparing meals for his loved ones.
In quieter moments, Lonnie enjoyed word search puzzles, classic sci-fi movies, and reading scripture each morning. He was a faithful viewer of Sunday sermons by John Hagee and Charles Stanley. Lonnie loved James Brown and could dance like there was no tomorrow. Above all, his greatest joy was hosting family gatherings and cookouts, where his playful spirit and generous heart were always on full display.
Lonnie will forever be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, respected brother, playful grandfather, pesky nephew, and a man who deeply cherished his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Betty Lou Ross; his five children, Lonna Ross (and her five children), Latosha Ross (and her three children), Lonnie (Ray) Ross and wife, Brandy (and their seven children), Steven Ross and wife, Launa (and their four children), and Alice Pryor (and her one child); and two nephews (Kenny's children). He also leaves behind three stepchildren, Mae Fox (and her eleven children), Mato Foxlee, and Bronzette Stein and husband, James (and their five children).
Lonnie is also survived by his brothers. Robert Ross and his wife, Tanya (and his two children), William (Bill) Ross and wife, Renee (and his four children), and Donald Ross and wife, Toni (and their three children); three aunts, Joan Baugh, Bonnie McLain, and Dona Conklin; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lonnie was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Ross; and two stepchildren, Richard Hildreth and Spierce Fox.
Family and friends will be received from 5 to 7:00 PM on Friday, May 9, 2025, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068, 724-337-3325.
