Judy Goodwin Barkasi, 79, of Lower Burrell, peacefully passed away with her family at her side on Monday, November 21, 2022. She was born November 21, 1943, in New Kensington to the late David and Irene VanHorne Goodwin. Judy was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington, where she was a member of the Christian Mother. She has dedicated the past 42 years to her community as she has been a member of the E.K.C.C. since 1980. Judy was the current President of this organization where she has held the office of President, Vice President and Trustee for 36 years out of 42. She has been in charge of the rentals since 1988. With the help of her Circle Sisters, she has chaired many fundraisers for families in need, victims of fires, the kid's bingo, the Scholarship funds, stockings for the soldiers, and Election Day Luncheon, where Judy is best known for her homemade beef vegetable soup. She enjoyed doing many different crafts, teaching her grandchildren and great granddaughter how to cook and bake, darting with family and friends, playing cards and board games, listening to Blake Shelton, watching the Voice, going to concerts and finally getting to the Grand Ole Opry in 1921. She enjoyed watching the Food Network, HGTV and the Hallmark Channel. But mostly enjoyed spending time with and watching the Pirates and Steelers games with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Barkasi; sons, John & David Simlick; daughter, Michele Duschi; twin granddaughters, Maeve & Meghan Simlick; brothers, John, Robert & Kenneth; and sisters, Pearl & Waneta.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Tracy Freedline; grandson, Brandon Litterio; granddaughters, Courtnie Lubik, Brittany & Breanna Freedline; great grandchildren, Rylee, Brycen & Colten; brother, Virgin Goodwin; son-in-law, Joseph Duschi; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends who knew and loved her.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2022, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. The Ladies of the E.K.C.C. will conduct a service at 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:30 AM on Monday, November 28, 2022, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum.
