Obituary

Joseph Frank Discello Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away April 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born September 6, 1952, in New Kensington, to the late John & Rose Arabia Discello, he was a 1970 graduate of Valley High School, and then attended West Virginia University. Joe worked for the Westmoreland County Housing Authority for 36 years. He coached boys' and girls' basketball for St. Mary School, Valley Middle School and Valley High School. Joe umpired little league baseball and was a WPIAL basketball referee for the A-K Chapter of Officials for over 20 years. He loved his referee friends and golfing buddies. Joe's faith in Jesus Christ was very important to him. He was a faithful member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in New Kensington and served as an altar server for St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Church, also in New Kensington. Family was everything to Joe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Julia Stanonis Discello, in 2020. Joe is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah L. (Crivaro) Discello; sons, Joseph Jr. (Allison) and Jason (Emily); son in law, Joseph Stanonis III; grandchildren, Alexis Aiello, Dominic Discello, Joseph Discello III, Alaina Discello, Jason Discello Jr., and Tyson Discello.; step grandchildren Allison & Joseph Stanonis IV; brothers, John (Stephanie) Discello and Michael (Chris) Discello; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave. New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Prayers of Transfer will be at 9:30 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell. The family thanks Monarch Hospice, especially Michael Andree, Falesha Logar and Holly Bills for their compassionate care, and for all the prayers and support Joe received during his illness, especially from St. Mary of Czestochowa Church clergy and parishioners and from the Ezekiel #37 Prayer Group.
