Obituary

Not many people are as lucky as we are to have our father as long as we did, we had to say goodbye for now, but we know we will see him again. John Kastelic, 90, of Renton, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. He was born October 17, 1930, to John & Mildred (Stanovich) Kastelic. John lived his entire life in Renton (Plum). He served in the Army in Korea. He married Agnes Keller and they had 3 daughters. John was a machinist, working for a nuclear materials company and then started his own business, Plum Machine & Welding with his brother, Rich. After retiring, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved trips to the Jersey Shore, family reunions and visiting his daughters. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. In his later years, he was known for making excellent pies, loved reading a good book, watching the birds on his feeder, and watching soap operas, golf and Gunsmoke. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Kim (Jeff) Schmeck, of San Antonio, Tx, Joni (Mike) Anthony, of Nashville, TN, and Beth (Mike) McDowell of Mullica Hill, NJ; grandchildren, Jamie (Jenn) Anthony, Mike Anthony, Brittany Schmeck (Matt Hirshblond), Jeffrey (Arielle) Schmeck and McKenzie McDowell; great grandchildren, John Michael, and Juliette Anthony; step great granddaughter, Emma Hirshblond; brother, Ray Kastelic; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, and Donald; sister-in-law, Isabelle, and Patricia; and nephew, Raymond. He was known by many names, including Sonny, Jedda, Buddy, Norman, Grumpy Cat, Papsickle, and Pap, but he most cherished being Dad and will be truly missed. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave. New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Parting Prayers will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 23, 2021, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Margaret Mary Church, Lower Burrell. Burial will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Boro.
