Enter obituary information here. George J. Smith Jr., 83, of New Kensington, died Friday, April 14, 2017, in Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Greensburg, son of the late George John Sr. and Rachel Venelle Smith. The lifelong New Kensington resident was employed by Allegheny Ludlum, Brackenridge, in the 8-2 Department, as a scale man and a forklift driver. He was a Korean War veteran, serving in the Army. George enjoyed country music and Western movies, and bowling in his younger years. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patricia V. 'Pat' Henry Smith; sons, Ronald and Thomas Smith; and daughter-in-law, Amy Smith. He is survived by a son, Michael Smith; a daughter, Diane (Chris) Robinson; grandchildren, Chuck, David, Timmy, Michael, Josh, Amanda, Amber, Courtney and Michelle; and 10 great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2017, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Carmen Butler officiating. Private burial will be in Ford City Cemetery, Ford City.
