Obituary

Fred E. Labay, 92, of Logans Ferry Heights, went home to be with the Lord and the love of his life, Norma, on Thursday, May 5, 2022, in Quality Life Services, Apollo. He was born December 3, 1929, in Nu Mine, Armstrong County, to the late Polda and Antoinette Labay. Fred was a graduate of Kittanning High School and then served in the US Navy. He was employed for 30 years as a clerk with the New Kensington Post Office, retiring in 1990. Fred was a member of the Logans Ferry Heights Volunteer Fire Department and also the Logans Ferry Presbyterian Church, where he was a Sessions Member and a greeter. His church family was an important part of his life. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, beagles, and was an avid Steelers fan. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Ocean City Maryland, Memphis and going on their 50th wedding anniversary cruise. Fred most of all loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, taking him hunting and fishing, and his great granddaughters, going to Kennywood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jane Smith Labay; 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Fred is survived by his daughters, Karen Labay, Cheryl (Bob) Zamule, and Michele (Tom) Binder; son in law, Jack Rearick; grandson, Michael (Nicole) Rearick; and great granddaughters, Hayley, Ava and Emma Rearick. As per Fred's wishes, viewing and services were private. Private entombment was in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Arrangements were entrusted to the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, New Kensington, 724-337-3325. The family would like to give a huge thank you to the excellent care provided to their father by Quality Life Services Apollo and Three Rivers Hospice.
