Eleanor Mae Pavucek Shaheen, 85, of Arnold, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 22, 1931, in Glassmere, daughter of Stephen and Mary Shondeck Pavucek. Eleanor was a graduate of Vestaburg High School and lived in the area all of her life, including the last four years in Arnold with her daughter and caregiver, Donna Traini. A career waitress, she was well known by patrons for her witty personality at The Red Raven, Oakmont Country Club and Happer's Tavern. She enjoyed playing the lottery at Eazer's, gardening, Pittsburgh sports and spending time with family. She is a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, New Kensington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Shaheen; brothers, Joseph and Andrew; and sister, Shirley. She is survived by her children, Catherine (Neil) Jankosky, Donna (Heather Zack) Traini, Susan (David) Lipanot, Joseph Shaheen and Steven (Sheila) Shaheen; brother, Walter Drbul; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Trisagion prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home with Father Meletios Zafaran. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, in St. George Orthodox Church, 1150 Leishman Ave., New Kensington. Burial will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery. Eleanor's children would like to gratefully acknowledge Allegheny Health Network and caregiver, Darlene C., for their wonderful support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in loving memory of Eleanor to St. George Orthodox Church.
