IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dolores
Novak
December 6, 1929 – June 26, 2025
Peacefully, on June 26th, 2025, Dolores Novak left this life for eternal life
with her Lord and Savior. She spent 95 full years living a beautiful life.
Her parents, Walter and Mary Zuber, welcomed her in 1929; she was the
baby in the family, the youngest of six children. She grew up and lived in
Arnold, until she met her devoted husband, Walter. When their son, Joseph
was born, they moved to Logans Ferry Heights where they put down their
roots and never left, belonging to many community organizations. Dolores
was a member of the Logan's Ferry Heights VFD Ladies Auxiliary and also
served as a clerk on the Election Board.
To know Dolores was to know joy! Her smile was not only contagious, but
almost never left her face. She embraced life and enjoyed a wide array of
activities. From a young age, she loved to dance, and this was how she
met Walt. She also loved music, both playing the piano and the snare drum
(in her school years), being the very first female snare drummer in the
Arnold High School Marching Band. She continued her enjoyment of music
through her son, Joe, and his accordion accomplishments. She also loved
going to concerts and musicals and would never turn down a trip to the
casino to play her favorite slot machines.
She showed her love of animals with a houseful of pets when Joe was
young, even training parakeets to say a few words. Throughout life, she fed
the wild birds, cared for feral cats by feeding them and setting up warmth
areas in the winter, hosed down ducks that wandered into the yard from the
farm next door and, of course, cared for her own pet dog or cat.
One of her greatest passions was football. This spanned high school
football (Plum), college football (We Are! and, yes, Pitt too!) and of course
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Football season was perhaps her favorite time of
the year.
Dolores was always ready for a road trip and greatly enjoyed visiting out-oftown family. Beside her family, Dolores' cherished her beloved church, St.
Mary of Czestochowa in New Kensington. She was a devoted life-long
parishioner. For the past 22 years, she has been a faithful member of the
choir, climbing the stairs to the choir loft every Sunday and on holidays.
The last time she climbed those stairs and sang with the choir was a few
short weeks ago on May 4th.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Walter
Novak; her parents, Walter and Mary Zuber; and all her siblings. She is
survived by her loving son, Joseph; and many nieces, nephews, and
innumerable dear friends. Her beautiful soul and perpetual smile will be
deeply missed by everyone who knew her and loved her. In memory of
Dolores, remember to hold your loved ones – and smile!
