Obituary

David J Florek Sr., 77 of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 1, 2024, in his home. Born September 20, 1946, in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Peter and Pearl (Przemieniecki) Florek. Dave was a US Army Veteran, and he was based at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY, while serving in the Vietnam Era. He was a car enthusiast, who enjoyed working in his garage as an auto body mechanic. Dave took pleasure in long drives in his Corvette with his dearly loved wife. He retired from the City of Lower Burrell as Supervisor of Parks and Recreation. Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially trips to camp and Linn Run with family and friends. He loved his oldies, but goodies, particularly Elvis Presley music. Dave was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington, the VFW Post 92 and American Legion Post 868, both in Lower Burrell, and The Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 533, New Kensington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia (Pawloski) Florek; a sister, Rebecca Key; brother, Dennis Florek; daughter, Lisa Smith; two sons, David Florek Jr. and Daniel (Jamie) Florek; 8 grandchildren, Dale, Kaitlin, Samantha, Brenden, Paul, Tabatha, Nicholas, and McKenna; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 PM, on Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. The VFW Post 92 will provide a service at 3:00 PM in the funeral home. Prayers of Transfer will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2024, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell, with Military Honors by the Vandergrift Honor Guard.
