Barbara M Valauri, 98, formerly of New Kensington, PA, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born July 14, 1927, in Hillside, PA to Evan and Anna Kerin Bush.
Barb graduated class of 1945 from Derry Township High School. She worked for the US Navy in Washington, DC during WW II, and, later as a salesclerk with Altmeyers Home Store. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and Ladies Guild. Barb was a prolific reader, a Jeopardy fan, a skilled gardener, and competitive bowler with the Terrace League. She was an avid sports fan, especially the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
Moving to Raleigh, NC in 2015, Barb embraced new friends, learned to play Bridge at age 90, and was affectionately called the “Mayor” at her retirement community; she never met a stranger and took care of others with infirmities until she required more help in 2024.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald O Valauri; sisters, Libia Selke and Helen Schalkosky; and brothers, Joseph and Evan Bush. Barbara is survived by her son, Chris A. (Susan) Valauri (Raleigh, NC); and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She was very close to her family and will be greatly missed.
Family and friends will be received from 10:30 to 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2026, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Parting Prayer will be at 11:30 AM in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Joseph Church, New Kensington.
