Obituary

Anna Mae Guida, 91, of New Kensington, PA, realized her life-long dream of being carried, upon her passing, in the arms of her Good Shepherd into the heavenly Sheepfold, passing into eternal life on December 3, 2021, at Allegheny General Hospital surrounded by loving family members. Anna Mae, affectionately known as "Tzi Tzi" to her nieces and nephews, was born May 24, 1930, in New Kensington, to Vito and Mary D'Angelo Guida, and graduated in 1948 from New Kensington High School. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers Lt. Col. Dominick H. (Pearl) Guida and Charles B. Guida, a sister, Theresa B. (Richard) Smith, and nephews Victor Guida and Gregory Smith. She is survived by sisters Ledora ("Lee") F. Guida, Patricia M. (George) Pecoraro, first cousin Delbert Darr of Reynoldsville, PA, nephews Dominick (Catherine) Guida, Christopher Guida, George Pecoraro Jr, Paul (Robin Rodbro) Pecoraro, and Christopher (Anna) Pecoraro, and nieces Jeanne (Frank) D'Amico, Marian (Stephen) Mullins, Michelle Guida, Mary Margaret Smith Spekis, Sarah (Robert) Mrozek, and Teresa (Richard) O'Connor, cousins Marietta Marino Montaperto, of CA, Norma Marino, and Loretta Marino (George) Gatto, many great-nieces, great-nephews, two great-great-nieces, and a great-great-nephew. She was a member of Mount St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, the Ezekiel 37 prayer community, and the Christian Mothers of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, all in New Kensington. Anna Mae began her career in high school as a photo finisher for Huttinger Photo Finishing, then as a photographer with Armstrong Studios. She, along with her sister Lee, opened Leanne's Gift Shop, New Kensington, and ran it for several years. A providential opportunity led her and Cousin Norma Marino to study the Montessori method in Perugia, Italy, which nurtured her love for children. She became a Montessori directress first in the Philadelphia area, then at Verna Montessori School in Mount Pleasant, from which she retired. Inspired by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), she traveled to Rome and studied CGS under the renowned Sofia Cavalletti. Upon returning to the United States, she established atria (CGS special environments) in the area. Anna Mae also advised many other churches' CGS programs in the U.S. and Canada. She also gave lectures on CGS in the U.S., Japan, and Mexico. Anna Mae never hesitated to spread the Good News with all she met, often gifting friends with small statues of the Good Shepherd which she obtained from Italy. She never lost her zeal for learning, even current technology, and was well-known for driving around town in her iconic 1980's-era white Volvo station wagon. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 9, 2021, in the Joseph J. Cardaro Funeral Home (a dear friend) 1125 Kenneth Ave. New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Prayer of Transfer will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 10, 2021, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at Mount St. Peter Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
